People keep asking me how they can start the life change of being a Healthy Gamer. We have a few different tools that I’ve talked about on stream but I’ve decided it is time to sit down and put these on paper. Or this website. Whatever.

Being a #HealthyGamer means that we understand that making a change takes time to be successful. It also takes hard work and effort to make a change in yourself. Along with the +1 Mentality (CopyRight Me, 2011-ish) which I’ll be writing up soon for the website, I also have a bunch of tools that can help you make that life change and STICK with it.

The first is the Burpee Challenge. You are to complete this everyday. Early morning. Late at night. At the airport. On your lunch break at work. Anytime you can find the spare time to do it.

The best part about the Burpee challenge is that it is very simple to do, however it can be extremely difficult to complete.

You start using the +1 Mentality and apply it to Burpees for a set amount of time.

Week 1: 5 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 4 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 3 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 2 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 1 Burpee and DONE!
Week 2: 6 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 5 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 4 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 3 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 2 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 1 Burpee and DONE!
Week 3: 7 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 6 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 5 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 4 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 3 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 2 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 1 Burpee and DONE!
Week 4: 8 Burpees. 7 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 6 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 5 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 4 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 3 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 2 Burpees. 1 Minute Rest. 1 Burpee and DONE!

Week 5: 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-DONE! (One minute rest between sets)
Week 6: 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-Done! (One minute rest between sets)
Week 7: 11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-Done! (One minute rest between sets)
Week 8: 12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-Done! (One minute rest between sets)

After week 8 we start reducing the rest period and adding in a simple plank! So that would look a little something like the following:

Week 9: 12 Burpees, 30 second plank, 30 seconds of rest, 11 Burpees, 30 second plank, 30 seconds of rest, 10 Burpees, 30 second plank, 30 seconds of rest. 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 Done!

Eventually you’ll begin to use this as a nice warm up at the gym or a High Intensity Interval Exercise at the end of a workout. I like to throw in battle ropes or pushing the sled as my rest periods at the gym!

That is it! The really awesome part of this simple challenge is once you begin doing it you’ll start feeling sore at first because you are asking your body to move in a multi-joint exercise that it isn’t used to but by the end of the first 8 weeks you’ll begin to enjoy doing it. I know that sounds weird but it is true. If you are really competitive like a few of our community members you can time yourself each day and try to break your own personal records.

    Looks like a good start work out brotha, I will try to get a vid up of myself doing this as well for people to see once I get better at video and computer work, still learning this stuff.
